The Narrow Path Scholarship

New for 2026–2027: A National Scholarship Category and a $2,000 Award

As The Narrow Path Scholarship enters its third year, we are excited to announce that we're growing! Each scholarship award is increasing to $2,000, double the previous award of $1,000. For the first time, we are also opening the scholarship to students across the country.

Scholarships will be awarded in two categories:

Category 1: Mexia High School Scholarship ($2,000). Open to graduating seniors at Mexia High School in Mexia, Texas. This category continues our commitment to the Mexia community, where the scholarship began.
Category 2: National Scholarship ($2,000). Open to graduating high school seniors from any of the 50 states.

Both categories are open to U.S. citizens only. The application process is the same for both, and applicants simply select the category that applies to them. The number of scholarships awarded in each category may vary from year to year.

Scholarship Overview

The Narrow Path Scholarship is designed to support students who are committed to perseverance, integrity, and a deep sense of curiosity and joyful expectation, the belief that life holds meaningful opportunities for those who seek them. This scholarship seeks applicants who have a desire to succeed and make a significant impact in the lives of those around them. It is for students who are not only goal-oriented but also willing to walk the "narrow path," one that requires strong character, commitment, resilience, and a mindset that values learning as a lifelong pursuit.

Each recipient of a $2,000 Narrow Path Scholarship will also receive one year of monthly mentorship, providing guidance and encouragement through their first year of college. Mentorship will be provided by Jacqueline Mourot, Ed.D., Founding Partner of The Oasien Group, LLC and the daughter and granddaughter of Mexia-area residents. Learn more about Jacqueline below.

Scholarship Guidelines & Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility

All applicants must:

Be a U.S. citizen.
Be a full-time high school senior graduating in spring 2027.
Plan to enroll as a degree-seeking freshman (A.A. or B.A.) at an accredited two- or four-year college or university in fall 2027.
Provide:
- High school transcript
- Official email address of high school counselor (for verification)
- Proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a copy of a U.S. passport, U.S. birth certificate, or Certificate of Naturalization or Citizenship

Category 1 (Mexia High School): Must be enrolled at Mexia High School in Mexia, Texas.

Category 2 (National): Must be enrolled in a public or private high school in any of the 50 states.

Note: Mexia High School seniors may apply under Category 1 only.

Application Components:

Essay Questions: Choose one question (400–500 words)

What impact do you hope to have on your community or the world, and how are you already working toward that vision?
What kind of person do you strive to become, and what values guide your choices?

Short Answer Response (Video 1-3 minutes)

Applicant must submit a 1–3 minute video : Tell us about a parent or parent figure who has shaped your perspective on life. What lessons have you learned from them, and how do those lessons influence your goals and aspirations?
The video should be recorded naturally (no professional editing required).

Required Parent/Guardian/Parent-Figure Statement (1–3 minutes)

A parent, guardian, or parent figure must submit a 1–3 minute video answering: "What do you admire most about the applicant, and how do you see them making a meaningful impact in their community or the world?"

Scholarship Award & Mentorship Commitment:

Each $2,000 scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient's college or university upon verification of enrollment.
Each recipient must agree to one year of mentoring calls with Oasien Group, LLC Founding Partner Jacqueline Mourot, Ed.D. (one hour per month through their freshman year and the summer after it).

Selection Process & Evaluation:

This scholarship is about more than academics. It's about recognizing students who are driven to make a difference and are willing to walk the "narrow path" of commitment, hard work, and purpose. Applicants will be evaluated holistically based on their essay, short answer response, and parent/guardian/parent-figure statement. We are proud to congratulate Abbie Johnson, recipient of the 2026 Narrow Path Scholarship!

Abbie is a graduate of Mexia High School and is beginning her freshman year studying nursing at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Her application stood out for her perseverance, her clear sense of purpose, her desire to care for others, and her exemplary academic record, the very qualities The Narrow Path Scholarship was created to recognize.

Along with her $1,000 scholarship, Abbie is receiving a year of one-on-one mentoring as she makes the transition to college life. We are excited to walk alongside her this year and can't wait to see all she will accomplish.
